It’s Bracket Selection Sunday for the 2016 DABWAHA!

DABWAHAAre you ready?! It’s Bracket Selection Sunday for the 2016 DABWAHA.

What does that mean? It means the full slate of nominees has been announced, including the eight books nominated by readers.

And now: the DABWAHA bracket is ready to be filled out.

UPDATE: You have until 3/16/2014 at 12:00pm/noon ET to enter your picks!

How do you do that?

Easy! You can follow the instructions step by step at the DABWAHA site. The essential steps to enter your bracket:

  1. Click on “New” and enter your nickname. Only the Nickname will show up publicly. NOTE!!! If you played last year, you’ll have to start from scratch.
  2. Click on the title of the book you will think will win each match until you have only one book left as your Champion. Note: you are not only trying to predict which book will win, but also which author/fandom/community can best gather votes to back their favorites. Yes, it’s tricky. That’s why it’s fun.The tie breaker is the number of reader nominations we received. Hint: it is under 1000. Another hint: it is higher than 2.
  3. When you hit submit, you’ll go back to the DABWAHA page – do NOT be alarmed! Also: your entries will not show up immediately. They have to be manually uploaded in batches, so they don’t show immediately. If you don’t see yours within a few hours, please email Jane.

Important note for visually impaired readers: if you’re using a screen reader and having problems with the bracket selection page, please email Sarah and sh can help you complete your bracket. She can do over the phone, or can coordinate a time via Skype, but we want you to be able to participate. Don’t be shy! She’s very friendly and promises not to bite!

What’s the point of all this?

Fun! Mayhem! The newfound knowledge of connecting your wireless device to all the free WiFi in a three mile radius so you can vote repeatedly!

Also, there’s prizes. OH YES. The prizes have been posted. We have a ton of awesome prizes donated by many splendid individuals including reading devices, gift cards, books, and chocolate. Plus, there are prizes for middle of the road brackets, the worst bracket and for winners of each round. Just by picking a bracket, you’re entered in the tournament.

So what do we do now?

Right now: pick your bracket. Have a look at the books, and ask yourself, What awesome book in each category is most likely to win each round? Then, once you’ve picked your bracket, we begin voting.

Voting?

Yup. The winner of each round is determined by reader voting. Polls open, and voting commences! There’s vote mongering, trash talking, and compliment wars on all forms of social media during the DABWAHA, too, so there’s a lot of goofy fun to be had.

Here are the Important Links:

GAME ON!

It’s DABWAHA 2016 Time!

DABWAHA - an open book with the word DABWAHA below it and yes I made that word up because reasons It’s DABWAHA time! When we tweet and vote monger and compete for prizes and silly fun as we celebrate some of the very best romances of 2015.

What’s a DABWAHA?

The DABWAHA is our annual NCAA-style tournament of books. 64 books are selected in 8 different categories, and readers pick brackets of which books they think will win each round.

The winners of each round are determined by public voting, so it helps your cause to promote the books you want to win each round.

That’s the short explanation of the tournament. You can get the full explanation on our How to Play post or you can ask us! We’re always around during tournament time, so if you don’t understand, comment, tweet or email us, k?

Nominations!

The nomination slate is ready. This year we have eight books in seven categories, and they have all been listed at the DABWAHA site.

This year, we’re continuing our reader nomination category! Yup, that’s right. Our 2015 categories are Contemporary, Historical, Novella, Series/Category, Paranormal/Fantasy/SciFi,  New Adult, and Novel with Strong Romantic Elements.

The eighth category will be filled with the top eight books as nominated by you. Yup. You nominate the books you think should be included that aren’t listed right now.

Which books were we wrong to leave off? Fire up your browser and head on over to fill out the form to enter your nominations. The form will close Saturday, March 12th at 12pm EST.

The book nominated can be digital or print, but please, wherever possible, use the ASIN or ISBN number for the PRINT edition to minimize duplicate entries.

I should also mention that both Ilona Andrews (after her stunning win last year) and Beverly Jenkins (she’s on an awesome vacay!) politely requested not to be included this year. So keep that in mind while nominating!

PLEASE NOTE! The book MUST have a copyright date of 2015. No exceptions, no reprints. No paperback version of 2014 hardcovers.

Schedule!

Want to see the complete schedule? Here it is!

Prizes!

Yes, of course there are prizes! There are prizes for each round of the tournament – whomever has the most perfect bracket after each round wins a prize. If there are multiple perfect brackets, tiebreakers are built into the software (see our FAQ). There are also prizes for the Second Chance Tournament, which opens once most of us (myself included) have busted our brackets irreparably.

New for 2015: Only one prize per person will be awarded from the first round until the Final Four, so that more people have a chance to win.

Then, at the end, we award random bracket prizes to many different excellent random brackets, plus the much-coveted Wooden Spoon prize for the worst bracket of the entire tournament.

The winning bracket and the author of the winning book each will receive a 16gb WiFi iPad, provided by Smart Bitches Trashy Books, LLC and Dear Author Media Network, LLC. Awww yeah.

Would you like to contribute a prize to the tournament? Awesome! Please fill out this form and let us know what you’d like to offer!

The tournament software is not always accessible to visually impaired users who use a screen reader. I don’t know of any tournament software that would work so I apologize. If you are having problems when the tournament software goes live, please contact me and I’ll help you out, k? (I’ll make this announcement again when the software is live).

Magic BreaksCongratulations to Ilona Andrews, and to Kate and Curran, for winning the 2015 DABWAHA with Magic Breaks!

And congratulations to our tournament winner, Kanoko, who had a truly splendid bracket!

We’re doing the final calculations for prize awarding, so stay tuned – and thank you again for making the 2015 DABWAHA so much fun for everyone!

The 2015 DABWAHA Championship: Ilona vs Ilona!

So that happened!

It’s Ilona Andrews vs. Ilona Andrews in the final of the 2015 DABWAHA. I am now imagining all her characters trash talking each other. Oh, that would be funny. I bet Kate Daniels is a terrific at it.

We also have a winner for the Final Four – Kanoko again! Congratulations, Kanoko! You’ve won a $100 gift certificate to AllRomance, courtesy of AllRomanceeBooks.com!

And now, it’s time for the championship, which will take place 10am ET to 10pm ET tomorrow, 6 April 2015.

If your bracket is like mine, and in… 836th place (GO ME!) do not lose hope! Don’t give up! Because there are amazing and wonderful Random Bracket prizes still to be won, including the Wooden Spoon prize for the worst overall bracket – a fine, fine prize to be sure.

So while this is a strange and silly final, everyone is still eligible for the random bracket prizes. Get ready for a battle of the ages, with Ilona Andrews battling herself for the DABWAHA Championship!

Final Four Opens Tomorrow!

The DABWAHA Final Four opens tomorrow at 10am (EST) and what an interesting semi-finals we have! Did anyone peg Ilona Andrews having not one, but two books in the Final Four? I know I didn’t, but my bracket was shot to hell a long time ago.

The remaining authors also had a few things to say to their awesome readers!

Beverly Jenkins:

Being in the Final Four along with my MSU Spartans is a blast. My thanks to my awesome fan base, their friends, my graphics crew and my very worthy opponents. Upward and Onward – I hope. LOL

Julie James:

How exciting that IT HAPPENED ONE WEDDING made it to the Final Four! (And especially with such tough competition.) It’s so much fun to see readers rallying in support of the book, and I appreciate people taking the time to vote. For me, one of the coolest things about DABWAHA is discovering new books . . . and it’s also a good excuse to tweet pics of hot guys while trash-talking other authors. Go Team IHOW!

Ilona Andrews:

Normally our books get eliminated in the early rounds, but this time we have two in the final four.  That is pretty crazy.  Thank you so much for all of your votes and thank you to the fellow authors who participated. Whatever happens in the final, we had a ton of fun.

Could Beverly clinch the victory this year? Will It Happened One Wedding take the DABWAHA crown? Or will we see an Ilona vs Ilona face-off in the finals? Don’t forget to cast your votes! Polls will be open until 10pm (EST).
