We Have a Champion!

Congratulations and confetti to Abigail Roux, winner of the 2013 DABWAHA, with her book Stars & Stripes:

 Book Stars & Stripes

I think balloon Tigger looks extra happy, doesn’t he?

Special awesomeness: in celebration, Riptide Publishing is offering 30% off backlist titles, and 50% editor’s choice titles from today until 19 April, so if you’re curious about the winning book, or any of their other titles, stock up now!

Congratulations to the author, and to Riptide, who promoted the hell out of the final. There were a LOT of votes cast in the championship!

Congratulations also to our second place finalist, Julie James, and her book About Last Night

Ms. Roux wins an iPad from us, and so does…Vi!

Congratulations Vi! You also win an iPad for having the mostest-correctest bracket of all, predicting not only the winning book, but the championship duel, and three-quarters of the Final Four. 79% pick percentage? NICE.

I’ll be posting the prize announcements this morning, so stay tuned. There are a LOT of prizes to award!

Thank you to everyone who played along, who mongered the votes and bribed and pleaded, and to all the awesome people who donated prizes.

Most of all, thanks to Jane, who is the poll master and the Chief Bracketologist.

See you guys next year for DABWAHA 2014!

Third and Fourth Round Winner: Erin F!

Time to declare a winner.

We had a tie for the Sweet Sixteen round, which was decided by our trusty tiebreaker.  And lo and behold, the same person won the Elite Eight round as well!

The Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight winner is: Erin F! It’s hard to argue with an 85% pick percentage. We should be asking Erin for lotto numbers, right?

If we were going by pick percentage, 2nd place would be held by Julie James, who awesomely picked her own book to win the whole tournament (word), and holds a 82% pick percentage rate.

But with the total points accumulated, right now 2nd place in the tournament standings is held by V, who is one point behind Erin F. It’s a close matchup going into the Final Four. Erin has picked About That Night to win, while V. picked fan favorite Stars & Stripes, which beat Archangel’s Storm in the second round of the Elite Eight. So either player could emerge victorious in the next round – or neither!

And then there’s the Second Chance Tourney, where two players, Spoony and Socrates31, are tied for first, both selecting Stars & Stripes as their winner.

Let’s talk prizes, shall we?

Erin F has won a signed paperback set of the Guild Hunter series, including Angels’ Flight, donated by Nalini Singh, and a Jane Eyre scarf, a beaded reading bracelet, and an ARC ofFirebird, donated by Susanna Kearsley. Congratulations, and thank you to Nalini and Susanna!

The next round of voting begins Saturday, April 6. A Lady by Midnight by Tessa Dare and Stars & Stripes by Abigail Roux will face each other to make the finals. Plus, About That Night by Julie James will battle Easy by Tammara Webber for the other final round spot.

Get ready, get set, and good luck!

Winners and Champions!

First, congratulations to the winner of the DABWAHA 2012 Tournament:

And biggest thanks to all of you who made this year’s tournament so much fun, from the Twitter trash talking to the videos to the vote encouragement. It was tremendous fun, and you helped make it that way. See you next year!

Final Four Winner!

The winner of the Final Four round is: Sara Lindsey!

The Final Four prize is offered by author Jaci Burton, and the prize is really awesome: a $100 gift certificate to Amazon or Barnes & Noble (winner’s choice), and autographed copies of Burton’s Play by Play series (The Perfect Play, Changing The Game, Taking A Shot), as well as an autographed Taking A Shot postcard signed by cover model Jason Vendryes. NICE. Thank you to Jaci, and congratulations to Sara Lindsey!

Sara is one point ahead of the 2nd place bracket, which belongs to Elise Staples. Staples picked Kiss of Snow to win, while Lindsey has picked Shadowfever – and the championship voting takes place tomorrow, 2 April, from midnight to 10pm CST.

Interestingly, Shadowfever was chosen by 144 people to win the championship, while Kiss of Snow is the predicted champion on 112 brackets. So the Moning book has a slight advantage, but voting gets crazy – so get ready. Game On!

Elite Eight Winner!

Time to crown the winner of the Elite Eight round of the DABWAHA tournament!

The winner of the Elite Eight round is: Sara Lindsey! Her bracket had 110 points, and she picked Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning to win, and she correctly picked all four Final Four books. NICE JOB.

Sara wins a prize from Penguin, full of Penguiny goodness: a selection of books and ARCs provided by Cindy Hwang, including:

  • ORACLE’S MOON, Thea Harrison
  • ANGELS’ FLIGHT, Nalini Singh
  • PROTECTOR, Catherine Mann
  • SPELLBOUND FALLS, Janet Chapman
  • PASSION AND PRETENSE, Susan Gee Heino
  • HUNTER’S RISE, Shiloh Walker
  • WEDDED IN SCANDAL, Jade Lee
  • PASSION WEARS PEARLS, Renee Bernard
  • THE SURRENDER OF MISS FAIRBOURNE, Madeline Hunter
  • JUST DOWN THE ROAD, Jodi Thomas
  • THE DUKE’S PERFECT WIFE, Jennifer Ashley
  • IF I FELL, Kate Noble
  • SIERRA FALLS, Veronica Wolff
  • ABOUT THAT NIGHT, Julie James
  • TAKING A SHOT, Jaci Burton
  • WALTZ THIS WAY, Dakota Cassidy
  • WICKED EDGE, Nina Bangs
  • BLOODRIGHT, Karin Tabke
  • SWEET ADDICTION, Maya Banks

Second place is the extremely prescient DA Janine, who tied for second with Elise Staples. The final rounds shall be very interesting indeed. Now we have a week off before voting starts up for the Final Four, and the trash talking should begin!

The novella Unlocked by Courtney Milan will go up against Karen Marie Moning’s Shadowfever  – that should be a very interesting match. The voting will runfrom midnight to noon CDT on 31 March. And Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh will face off A Lot Like Love by Julie James, who is last year’s champion. I wouldn’t be able to predict that one, either. Their matchup begins at noon CDT on 31 March and will run until midnight.

Congrats to the Final Four DABWAHA books, and get ready! Game on!

Sweet Sixteen Winner!

Between the Sweet Sixteen in the Second Chance Bracket and the DABWAHA Tournament, it’s been a flurry o’ voting around these parts. There’s been videos and trash talking and really polite trash talking – and that crazed author Julie James giving away a copy of each book defeated by A Lot Like Love. You guys are insane with the awesome, seriously.

So let’s crown us a winner! The winner of the Sweet Sixteen round, with 82 points, is Untara Rayeesa! Untara, please email me at sarahATsmartbitchestrashybooksDOOTcom to claim your prize.

And what did you win? Hot damn awesome, that’s what you won. And, from prize sponsor Carina Press, sixteen free Carina Press books of your choice! That’s a lot of reading. Get ready – and you can try out some of the Carina Press nominees from the DABWAHA, too, like Yours to Keep by Shannon Stacey, or Sweet as Sin by Inez Kelley.

Congratulations to Untara! Now, there’s more voting this weekend, so get ready!

Second Round Winner, and Second Chance Tourney!

Big Bag o' Awesome from Avon BOoks!

Winner winner ahoy! The voting was intense over the weekend, and the bracket standings changed drastically with each round. The winner of the 2nd Round of the DABWAHA is Marie Choi!

Marie wins a totebag stuffed, and I do mean stuffed (PIC) with books, courtesy of Pam Jaffee, Jessie Edwards, and the folks at Avon. There’s enough romance in that bag to last for quite awhile. Happy reading to you, Marie! Please contact me at sarahATsmartbitchestrashybooksDOTcom to claim your big bag o’ awesome.

And in other news, it’s Second Chance Tourney Time!  Bracket busted? You get a Second Chance! Starting with the Sweet 16, pick your winners – and there’s prizes for this tourney, too!

This is a separate contest – your picks in this tourney don’t override your picks in the main tourney, in other words. The winner of the 2nd Chance Bracket will receive a Kindle Fire, a $100 Amazon giftcard, and an ARC of Echoes at Dawn, book 5 in the KGI series from author Maya Banks.

2nd place in the 2nd chance will receive a $50 gift card to either Amazon or B&N from Sarah Frantz and Eric Selinger, who are celebrating the publication of their academic collection of essays titled New Approaches in Popular Romance Fiction.

Have a look at the prizes page for more information on what’s going to be awarded with each round. And, yes, there is absolutely a “Wooden Spoon” prize for the worst bracket overall, so if your bracket is hopelessly broken, you can always aim low and vote against yourself to try to score that prize.

The second chance tourney brackets are open through Wednesday, March 21. Then voting on the Sweet Sixteen begins Thursday, March 22! There’s a handy-dandy calendar online in case you need to check the dates – or add the voting to your own schedule!

I hope you’re having fun as much fun as we are as we play through. Next up: Sweet 16!

Round One Winner!

First, this tweet from SonomaLass says it all:

Darn Dukes! Screwing up everything.

Time to announce the round one winner!

In the standings, first place after round one was DA Janine, who, alas, is ineligible. Mad applause to your fine bracket picking skills, Janine. Well done!

And therefore, the winner, winner, chicken dinner is: Cherlyn Cook! Congrats Cherlyn!

Your prize was provided by Most Awesome author HelenKay Dimon, and you’ll be receiving a copy of her new Harlequin Intrigue, When She Wasn’t Looking, and a $50 B&N or Amazon gift certificate. Thank you to HelenKay for providing our round one prize!

And Cherlyn, please email me at sarahATsmartbitchestrashybooksDOTcom to claim your winnings. Congratulations!

Round Two continues today and tomorrow, and the matchups are intense, so get ready. Hope you’re enjoying the 2012 DABWAHA as much as we are.

Winners Post

It’s Winner Time! We have the winners of rounds 2, 3 and 4 for the DABWAHA, and their prizes!

First, the winner of Round 2 is: MJ Scott! And the prize is a hot selection of awesome from author HelenKay Dimon: a $50.00 gift card to the store of Scott’s choice, as well as a signed copies of Victoria’s Got a Secret, Under The Gun, Guns and the Girl Next Door, and Gunning For Trouble. Congratulations MJ Scott and thank you to HelenKay Dimon for such a kicking prize.

The winner of round 3 AND round 4 was Lillie Applegarth, whose bracket is the envy of just about everyone else in the tournament.

The round three prize was donated by Maya Banks, and includes an ARC of In Bed with the Highlander, the first in Banks’ Scottish historical trilogy that launches in September, plus signed and personalized copies of the first three KGI books: The Darkest Hour, No Place to Run, and Hidden Away. PLUS Banks is offering a $50 gift card to Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

The round four prize was donated by Jaci Burton, and also contains much in the way of awesome: a $100 gift card to Barnes & Noble or Amazon (winner’s choice), plus autographed copies of Burton’s Wild Riders series, a signed copy of The Perfect Play and an ARC of the next book in Burton’s Play-by-Play sports series.

PLUS, both winners will receive a poster-sized version of Burton’s The Perfect Play cover, which we all like to gaze at. I carry a post-card sized version with me wherever I go. Ok, it was an accident but with that picture in my purse pocket, I’m quite happy to wait in line any time.

Congrats to the winners, and to the authors whose books have advanced to the next round – it’s almost time for the Championship!

2011 Round 1 Winner: MG Braden

Even though DABWAHA is about pride and not prizes, we do have some kick ass prizes for each round. Round 1 was the round of squeakers so it is no surprise that the winning bracket’s margin was tiny as well. The winner of Round 1 is MG Braden whose score of 205 points put her over Claudia Arendt who had 204 points.

Screen shot 2011-03-18 at 8.17.54 AM

Ms. Braden wins the honor of being ROUND 1 Winner and from Larissa Ione a $25 Amazon GC, signed copy of Eternal Rider, and tote bag full of goodies and from Eve Silver $25 gift card and signed copies of the first three books in her Otherkin series (Sins of the Heart, Sins of the Soul, Sins of the Flesh).

Thanks Larissa and Eve and congratulations to Ms. Braden.
