  1. Do you ever release results from the reader polls aside from the top winners? I would be curious to see what else was nominated in some of the categories, just to get recommendations on books that other readers liked.

  2. No idea how this thing works. So confused even after reading everything. What’s the difference between the nominees (the 64 in the March Madness thing) and the “Reader Nominations”, where there are only 8? Which readers nominated these 8? For that matter who nominated the 64? Are there some kind of nominations other than “Reader” ones? What happened to the other 56 nominees? How come they’re gone before there were even any polls? What does the March Madness selection face-off thing have to do with these 8 “Reader nominations”? What’s going on? Where are my glasses? I need a donut. But seriously, what the frack???!

  3. Yes, I have read everything. I don’t get it. It really does not explain anything very well. For example, what’s the difference between Finalists and Nominees? Why do we guess which book is going to win and THEN vote on which book should win? Huh?? I don’t understand the tie-breaker thing either, because the bracket thing isn’t actually voting (is it?) so how can there be a tie-breaker? Need half a dozen donuts now.

  4. @whatthefrack – I’m not sure what information you are seeking.

The finalists are the books that are in the tournament. There are 8 categories and 8 finalists in each category which equals 64 books. Up until Saturday, the readers could nominate the 8th finalist. The first seven in each category were picked by Sarah of Smart Bitches and the reviewers at Dear Author.

The nomination period is now closed. The bracket period is now open. You pick your brackets using the tourney site. These are the books you expect to win each round until there is one champion.

On Tuesday night, the opportunity to fill out your bracket will close and the voting will begin. Polls will appear on the blog and everyone votes for the winner.

A tie breaker exists in case one person’s bracket ends up with the same score as the other person’s bracket (The scoring is based on seed v. round and is explained in the upper left hand corner of the bracket pick sheet).

This tournament is based off the March Madness tournament of basketball which allows for individuals to fill out brackets and pick a college basketball champion.

  5. I am slowly working this thing out and thanks for your help. First off, this website uses the words Finalists and Nominees interchangeably, which is confusing. Nominees normally means a list from which finalists are selected.

Also, I know nothing about basketball so I don’t know what a bracket is or why I need to say who I expect to win followed by who I want to win. Honestly, that makes no sense to me and the site doesn’t say what the consequence of the former is, but I assume the consequence of the latter is that the most voted-for book after Tues night is the Champion.

I guess my question now is, are all 64 books going to appear in the poll (cuz that would make no sense to me – why would I vote any differently the second time around?) or only the ones that got chosen in the preliminary bracket period?

  6. @whatthefrack – step 1. is filling out the brackets. step 2. is voting in the polls. Polls will run on thurs/fri/sat/sun and then restart again for every round.

  7. @whatthefrack, I’m with you and I have a baskinrobin’s double scoop icecream waiting for me. Poor Jane, she probably wants to delete us both. My best pal loooves basketball maybe she can help.
